Support Small Business Saturday

by Rachael Priest on November 25, 2011

Many people look forward to the day after Thanksgiving with great anticipation. The super deals, the thrill of the hunt, and the challenge of beating other like-minded shoppers to the best bargain Black Friday offers is exhilarating. But after the excitement of the first shopping day of the Christmas season dies down and you stow your treasures away, what then? Why not support your local small businesses on Small Business Saturday?

What is Small Business Saturday?
Small Business Saturday is a relatively new tradition that was developed by American Express in 2010 in an attempt to stimulate the local economy and increase awareness of all of the wonderful local businesses in your area. With the excitement that surrounds Black Friday, many consumers don’t realize the amazing deals and unique gifts that can be found in their own community.

The Benefits of Shopping Small
When you think about all the reasons it’s great to shop locally, it’s surprising that we don’t do it more often. Some of the benefits of staying small include:

  • Less gas expensive traveling to a large city.
  • Less stress being stuck in traffic, long lines, and large crowds.
  • Your tax dollars stay in your community.
  • You can find unique gifts that no major chain store will have in stock.

In addition to the benefits that you experience, your local community benefits as well. By supporting and shopping small, you are providing a means for your favorite small businesses to continue to be able to serve you. Your local small business owners appreciate your patronage far more than they are able to express.

What You Can Do
This Saturday, November 26, 2011, why not plan a small shopping trip to some of the small businesses in your area. You can contribute to the stimulation of the local market, support your small business owners, and rediscover places you may have forgotten about. Or discover places you never even knew were in your own backyard.

At Buds ‘n Bows Flower Shop in Crawford, Ga, we will be keeping extended business hours in honor of Small Business Saturday. Drop by and visit us between 9 and 2 and make sure to visit all the other local businesses in our area, too. We offer unique gift items, silk flowers, fresh flowers, vintage items, and more. Much of our inventory is currently on sale, so you can find some great deals. Give us a call at 706-743-5830 to learn more. Happy shopping!
