The 12 Flowers of Christmas: Day 12

by Rachael Priest on December 23, 2011

On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me: Red and White Roses

It’s the final day of our 12 flowers of Christmas! Please leave a comment below to let us know what you think and if you’d like to see similar series in the future. Suggestions are always welcome. And so, for day 12, we present red and white roses!

Roses are wonderful flowers to use any time of the year. They are elegant, beautiful, and timeless. We’ve chosen red and white roses to complete our 12 Flowers series because of their meaning. In the language of flowers, red roses symbolize love while white roses represent purity. Additionally, red and white roses together symbolize unity. These meanings summarize the characteristics of Christ in a nutshell. Moreover, the color red during the Christmas season symbolizes the precious blood of Christ, which was the ultimate sacrifice He came to make.

Red and White Roses in Christmas Flowers

Red and white roses can be added to virtually any Christmas flower arrangement to add beauty and elegance. Each whimsical design idea can be made more interesting with the addition of roses. From mixed seasonal centerpieces to elaborate arrangements and advent wreaths, roses complete the look. A stunning vase of one dozen roses, whether red, white, or a mixture of the two, placed on your table can warm your home. Make it more dazzling with red or gold ting-ting, a touch of Christmas ribbon, or a decorative floral accent.

Caring for Red and White Roses

In order to enjoy your fresh flowers as long as possible, water your roses daily. Roses take up a great deal of water, so do not allow the water level to drop below the stem. In arrangements that use floral foam, keep the container full so that the foam stays saturated. Keep roses as cool as possible, but not below freezing, to delay their opening and never place them in close proximity to fruit or heat sources such as electronic devices.

At Buds ‘n Bows Flower Shop in Crawford, Ga. we keep roses in stock all year long. With only a couple of days left before Christmas, there is still time to add a breathtaking flower arrangement to your Christmas décor. Give us a call at 706-743-5830 to place your order, or stop by and see us to browse our unique flowers and gifts we have in stock.

We hope you have enjoyed our 12 Flowers of Christmas. As we conclude our Christmas series of 2011, we’d like to wish you all the joy of the season and the peace of Christ as we celebrate His birth. And so, for this series, we have only one thing left to say: “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
