4 Flower Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day

by Rachael Priest on March 14, 2012

With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, everyone is no doubt thinking in shades of green. If you’re looking for some St. Paddy’s Day flower ideas, then we’ve got a few for you to consider:

  1. Green Flowers—Several flowers grow naturally in various shades of green, most notably the rose. Some varieties of chrysanthemums also grow in green, as do carnations, orchids, calla lilies, and hydrangeas. Finally, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day, we have Bells of Ireland. Most naturally green flowers are actually a very light shade of green, much more mint than grass, so keep that in mind when ordering green flowers.
  2. Tinted Flowers—If you’re looking for green flowers in deeper, more pronounced shades, talk to your local florist about tinting other flowers. Special tints designed specifically for fresh flowers can transform virtually any flower from one color to another. White flowers tend to take the color best, but ask your florist for his or her recommendation combining other colors. With tinting, you can have a perfectly festive, all-green flower arrangement in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day.
  3. Green Plants—For a simpler solution to the green theme, consider one of the many green plants available. A peace lily, ivy plant, or pothos plant can provide the greenery you need to make your home more festive, and then provide a natural accent to your home for many years thereafter. If you’re looking for something truly in the spirit of the holiday, consider a shamrock plant. These plants can be grown in containers or outdoors, and feature delicate white, lavender, or yellow flowers while in bloom.
  4.  Silk Wreaths—Wreaths aren’t just for Christmastime! You can have a wreath custom made by your local florist for every holiday, including St. Patrick ’s Day. Since wreaths can be used year after year, all it takes to make your home more festive is a wreath hanger and a trip to your holiday décor storage. You can even add foil shamrocks, glittery accents, or a little leprechaun on the side of your wreath.
